| | | Lake Eildon | | Travelling to Lake Eildon is an experience within itself. Driving on the Maroondah Highway through Healesville and into the Black Spur with its tall timbers, huge tree ferns and cool mountain creeks, would have to be one of the most scenic drives in Victoria.
Lake Eildon was formed by the damming of 5 rivers, and is nestled amidst the foothills of Victoria's High Country, marking the heart of the Goulburn River system.
For those who enjoy fishing, trout is the name of the game up here. Visit the Lake Eildon Trout Farm and have a go at catching tonight's dinner.
The Lake has become a popular water sports and recreational area for holidaying Melbournians who also enjoy staying in the popular houseboats that are moored along its 500-kilometre shoreline, set amidst the Eildon State Park.
Distance: - 170kms from Melbourne via Maroondah Highway
Highlights
- Lake Eildon National Park for some great walking tracks and lakeside camping areas.
- Fishing & Boating along the lake or the "Trout" farm.
- Lake Eildon Dam, drive across the wall, to the upper carpark for views down the Upper Goulburn Valley.
